Research Capacity & Development​

General Overview

 

CERTE (Water Research & Technologies Center) is a public applied R&D center established in 2005 under Tunisia’s Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research. Based at the Borj Cedria Technopark, CERTE leads national expertise in water and environmental sciences—covering surface water, groundwater, hydrogeophysics, hydrogeochemistry, wastewater treatment & valorization, desalination, nature-based solutions, biotechnologies, membrane technologies, water governance, and sustainable development.

Role in the AQUEDUCT Project

CERTE contributes scientific leadership and field operations in Cap-Bon (Lebna–Kamech–Beni-Khalled), focusing on:

  • Quantifying dam leakage and understanding Dam–Aquifer interactions.

  • Integrating geology, geophysics, hydrochemistry, and isotopes to constrain groundwater flows.

  • Building calibrated 3D groundwater models (e.g., Visual MODFLOW) to support water-allocation decisions.
